NOW...ONTO THE POST & THE MUSIC:
Saturday night I spun at a totally insane 80's/New wave dance party at this INCREDIBLE loft apartment in Astor Place.  It's amazing to see how the other half lives.  Anyway, the party was off the chain & people were dancing for hours!!

Since I was knee-deep in the hits of the 80's for a week straight, I'm going to post some old hip hop faves here that used rock the dancefloor back in the day!

Today let's talk about the ladies:

Monie Love - Monie in the Middle
Where she at? In the middle.  I also love "It's a Shame" by her -- both are awesome.  Isn't this album cover terrible & hilarious?  What the hell is up with dressing like a 12 year old girl?

Oh the glorious & harmonious daisy age in hip597pxmonielove_3 hop. I was just checking out the De La Soul Wikipedia entry & it goes on to describe it this way:

"3 Feet High and Rising also introduced De La Soul's concept of the "D.A.I.S.Y. Age" (an acronym standing for "da inner sound, y'all"). As a result, audiences were quick to peg the members of De La Soul as hippies. This stereotype greatly agitated the group's members, as they always envisioned their career as a constantly changing style. This frustration would influence their next recording sessions."

How do you hide money from a hippie?  Put it under the soap. Wacka Wacka!

You can read more about Monie Love here.  Check out the "Monie in the Middle" video & the "It's a Shame" video too!

Queenlatifah Queen Latifah - Ladies First
From the album All Hail the Queen, this song featured Monie Love & is considered a "feminist anthem."  Alls I know is I used to love shaking my can to it back in the day.  It's message was obviously missed by me.

She looks so Sista Souljah over there, right? She was only 19.  Here's the video for Ladies First -- she looks so militant!  Do you think she had dreams of being a Cover Girl model then?

I miss the cool Queen Latifah -- the one who rapped "Who ya callin' a bitch?" & didn't tout Jenny Craig or star in horrible shit storms like Mad Money

Oh well, a girl's gotta make a living.

Supersonicalbum

JJ Fad - Supersonic
This song rules -- beatboxin' & attitude -- a tuff combination!
JJ Fad stands for "Just Jammin' Fresh and Def" -- that's kinda ghey but sort of cute.  I mean look at them over there - they just wanna party 'n have a good time, ya know?

You can watch the Supersonic video & watch some fly girl dance moves.

Oh & I played all new wave stuff on my East Village Radio show on Saturday -- go check out the podcast!
