Calling All Young Americans!
A friend sent this to me from Daily Kos. I love it!
I especially love the part:
L
A
T
E
R
S
Barack was really ahead of his time, using "laters" & all*. Also he is a handsome guy. This lady went to high school with him back in the day.
* She says this is a Hawaiian pidgin word but I like to think he started "laters" so sue me.

Heads up -- I'm going to spinning a super rock set on VALENTINE'S DAY (Thurs Feb 14th) at FONTANA'S with special guest DJ Hank! 10 to 4 am - no cover. More info soon!

Now that you've been a good American & voted, here's some remotely patriotic music for you. (mostly sung by non-Americans):
David Bowie -- Young Americans
I can't help but think of "Sixteen Candles" when this one comes on. Isn't it the part just after Long Duk Dong (aka "The Donger") is found on the front lawn, spouting embarrassing racist crap just before the big wedding finale. I thought this was a pretty interesting blog entry about Long Duk Dong that you might want to check out.
But back to David Bowie, he's impossibly cool & just keeps getting cooler! Seriously, how does he continue to do it?
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers -- American Girl
Try to tell me that the Strokes didn't totally rip this riff off in the beginning of this song & I say "Nay, that's where you're wrong, biatch!" I used to really hate anything remotely classic rock-ish back in the day. (I was listening to a lot of Depeche Mode at the time, what can I say?) But now, I embrace much more of this genre, not all, but some. You can learn more about Tom Petty & the heartbreakers here.
Kim Wilde -- Kids in America
This song is like one of my favorite new wave dance hits! From 1981 - dang! Here's the video -- she looks like the kids in Williamsburg actually. (She's from London so we can overlook the reference to "East California" in the song, can't we?)
