Wes Anderson sure puts together some lovely soundtracks. Here are some beauties from The Darjeeling Limited (which you can buy via Amazon):
Joe Dassin -- Les Champs Elysees
I love this stuff! I'm full of whimsy, no? Read more about Joe Dassin in Wikipedia. His middle name is Ira.
The Kinks -- This Time Tomorrow
That Ray Davies writes some amazing lyrics, damn: "I'll leave the sun behind me & I'll watch the clouds as they sadly pass me by. Several miles below me I can a world & it ain't so big at all..." Wes Anderson has single-handedly given the younger generation an appreciation for the Kinks, bless him.
Peter Sarstedt -- Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)
This song is about a poor girl who becomes a part of the jet set according to Wikipedia. That's all I got for ya. You can also watch the mustachioed Peter Sarstedt singing this song on the BEAT CLUB HERE! Tres trippy.
This Peter Sarstedt Song was VERY successful in the sixties, especially in Germany. But the lyrics are somewhat petit-bourgeois ("kleinbürgerlich"): The Guy envies the girl. He keeps telling her that he knows about her past in the backstreet of Naples and inspite of all her wealth und and luxury living he can see "inside her head": It's alittle bit of male chauvinism crap - and actually is not too far from Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone", but not half as poetic.
