Friends, I've been getting back into Blues Explosion/the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion/JSBX. And I'm loving it.
Why did I EVER stop listening?? Well they were played non-stop during my college years & they toured like mad. I must've seen them 20 times in a 5 year period (ALWAYS an excellent show, by the way).
But now that years have passed, I remember why I loved those hot bitches in the first place. I mean:
JSBX -- Wail
JSBX -- Sweat
JSBX -- Dang
Dang is right! You see, JSBX understands the power of shouting the hott rock'n roll phrases into a song. It's like he's got the "sexy tourettes" (TM c.crumbcake) or sumthin.
So if you wanna rock & work the crowd into a humping tizzy, sprinkling any & all of the following makes for the rock' roll sexy:
- get down!
- sock it to me!
- woMUUUN!
- awright!
- YEH-yuh!
- new york CITAAAAAAAY!
- da-YUM!
- gawd da-YUM!
- numba one!
- blues explosion!
I have literally seen boys & girls alike worked into a raging sexual lather during a JSBX show. Once after a show many years ago, my friend Suky announced that she wanted to hire them to play her future bachelorette party. Because they were infinitely more effective than hiring a stripper as far as getting the girls worked up. Werd.
You can read more about JSBX in Wikipedia.
JSBX VIDEOS:
-- Bellbottoms!
-- Flavor! video feat Beck
-- Afro!
-- Talk About the Blues live on French TV & the video (with Winona Ryder as Jon S, Giovanni Ribisi as Judah Bauer & John C. Reilly playing Mr Russell Simins??)
-- Wail live on French TV (wish I could find the music video for this one -- directed by Weird Al Yankovich -- it's great!)
Jon is now in a band called HEAVY TRASH -- check out a video for Dark Haird Rider. Looks like they're rolling out the rockabilly blues thundah in the Netherlands as we speak. Jon, I approve of your rockabilly thing, seems like the natural direction for you to take. However. I do not like your rock-a-mullet (see video for gross hair fashion infraction). Just sayin'.
Judah Bauer's writing music & "slumming with local bands" according to his website. Of course that was written on March 18, 2006. Judah, where are you now?
& Russell Simmins is producing & playing drums with Brooklyn-based kid rockers Tiny Masters of Today. Check out their video for BUSHY.
Um, this is like your longest post EVER. I think it was YOU who was getting worked up!!!
