A quick little post for the first day of fall*. Get ready for cardigan sweaters, woolly tights, scarves...
A bunch of friends are talking about renting a van & driving off for a day of pumpkin picking, apple cider drinking, corn maze running day of wholesomeness & I couldn't be more excited about it! But no haunted houses -- I hate 'em!
ONE QUICK THING -- LISTEN TO MY INTERNET RADIO SHOW THIS MORNING - 10AM to NOON EST (OR CHECK OUT THE PODCAST)! OK? THANKS.
BROADCAST -- Corporeal I love Broadcast so much. This song is divine. If you ever get the chance to see them live, you really should do it. Trish Keenan's voice is pure perfection. Ooh & to prove my point, I found this live clip of Broadcast performing "Winter Now". You can also go nuts at Broadcast's website & watch more videos if you want!
OPAL -- She's a Diamond Dark dream pop band Opal featured Hope Sandoval (later in Mazzy Star), Kendra Smith (formerly in Dream Syndicate) & David Roback (formerly in Rain Parade then in Mazzy Star).
A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS -- Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You) Here's one that should take you back to the days of sitting in your bedroom in your parent's house, wishing you could be at the mall but you're grounded because you snuck out the night before. Despite their ridiculous hair, A Flock of Seagulls actually wrote some excellent songs -- it's not just "I Ran", kids!
PETER BJORN & JOHN -- Amsterdam What's this -- a NEW song in the mix?? Yes, it's another ditty from Peter Bjorn & John -- those adorable pop kids from Sweden! And as a special added bonus, click HERE to watch the super cute "Young Folks" video!
THE SMITHS -- I Won't Share You Oh, this song is a killer. According to Wikipedia, "Its lyrics contain a typically maudlin lament about the "sick and cruel" nature of life, alongside flashes of the self-aware pride associated with Morrissey ("with the drive and the dreams inside / this is my time"); the track is a fitting close to the career of the Smiths. It has been assumed by many that the lyrics are Morrissey's farewell to Johnny Marr." Aw damn. Read more HERE.
BEACH BOYS -- I Just Wasn't Made for These Times Seriously dude, this song applies now more than ever. Brian Wilson's songwriting is just so fucking incomparable. Learn more about the Beach Boys & their album Pet Sounds (which this song is from) HERE.
TALK TALK -- Life's What You Make it "Baby life's what you make it, can't escape it." I remember thinking this song was incredibly profound when I first heard it as a teen & it's one of those songs that really stands the test of time in my opinion. Read more about Talk Talk.
