The aforementioned GOES CUBE show blew my head off it was so good. My chollo Dustin took some amazing photos of the show that capture the RAW POWAH -- I'll post a link when they're up.
August is the most boring time of all in the industry I work in so I've had all kinds of free time to cyber-stalk friends & neighbors. Stumbling onto things I'm not sure that I want to see... but... cannot... look... away. I guess that's how it is in this age of photo blogs & myspace & whatnots.
Right! So none of thses songs really has anything to do with what I just said, so that's why this lil mix is called:
W.T.F.?! or WHAT the EFFIN' H?!
STARS -- Your Ex-Lover is Dead
I know Stars needs no attention & has lotsa great songs but this one...just plunge the knife in cause it hurts so good. I mean -- with lines like "& all of the time you thought I was sad, i was trying to remember your name" & "live thru this & you won't look back" it seriously IS almost painful. Girl, we've all been there, mmm hmmm.
THE SPINANES -- Kid in Candy
I love the Spinanes. I remember seeing them at BROWNIES at CMJ in '93 I think. Rebecca Gates wore the indie rock summer girl uniform (a shift/housedress a la Salvation Army) & they were awesome. I only wish I hadn't been so drunk when I saw them....poo.
AMBULANCE LTD -- Heavy Lifting
This song's melody gets stuck in my head a lot, especially the piano part which i luuuv. Ambulance LTD help prove that NYC's music scene is still relevant -- cause it is, dammit!
BROADCAST -- Goodbye Girls
I'm always so in love with Broadcast. This song is just wonderful. Does more need to be said? I think NYET!
BEAT HAPPENING -- Bad Seeds
Oh Calvin Johnson & Company, you sure do make the monotone SEXXY & I can relate to being a BAD SEED (& I came from such a GOOD family)
PAVEMENT -- Box Elder
Not so strangely, this song used to lodge it's way into my brain backwhen I lived in the boring college town, post-graduation: "Was it just a voice made me make a choice, that I had to get the fuck out of this town? I've got a lot of things to do, a lot of places to go. I've got a lot of good things comin' my way & I'm afraid to say that you're not one of them!" And in case you're wondering -- no, there is NO Box Elder, MO. Believe me, Stephen Malkmus, I looked.
YEH & ANOTHER MONDO'S COMIN' ATCHA TOMORROW NIGHT -- & OPPENHEIMER IS GUEST DJING!
