Once upon a time the only Nancy Sinatra song I'd ever heard was "These Boots are Made for Walking." I loved it for a spell but it got old, had lost it's charm & I thought old Nancy was a one-trick pony who'd only gotten where she was because of her famous last name.
...Boy, was I wrong. Nancy's got the sass! She has a great voice & she has several awesome songs in her repetoire Check these killers out:
...Fucking ace right???
Okay, now that you've been converted into a Nancy fan, you HAVE to get Movin' with Nancy! It's only the most amazing DVD ever! It's Nancy's 1967 TV special in all of its glory -- complete with super awesome RC Cola commercials. She performs a bunch of her songs (& covers quite a few too) in music video stylee.
For example, "Up Up & Away" features Nancy swinging in an obviously tethered hot air balloon while a bunch of Up-with-People-kind-of-way dancers leap, flip & completely fag-out in front of her.
In "Sugartown" she wanders thru a lush rainforest in her fabulous big blonde wig, full insane eye makeup & go-go boots. She seems a little confused (or like she took one too many quaaludes) & the poses they put her in -- EXCELLENT!
And don't even get me started on the psychedelic freakiness that is "Some Velvet Morning"!
Oh I could go on & on but you'll just have to see for yourself. The DVD also features Lee Hazlewood (what a mustache), Frank Sinatra (witness super creepy father-daughter weirdness), Sammy David Jr (who she has a dance-off with) & Dean Martin (SO drunk). It's the weirdest, best DVD ever.
And Sugartown inspired me so much that I named this blog after it AND a little DJ night too:
